In many ways, the work we are doing from Convergence of Cultures points to an idea of the future that we have already called: Universal Human Nation. And maybe because that image sucks us up, we can detect some facts that are appearing on the new human horizon with the contents and the meanings typical of that image.
Showing these meanings, contents and facts to make them "obvious" to those who, suspect that something good is coming, do not see clearly how they can do, and even to those that are drowned in an inhuman system and do not even think about a way to go out, is the attitude that has led us to carry out a series of activities to load with meanings the neighborhood and to fill it with contents typical of that Universal Human Nation in the first quarter of the year.
We started the year "adopting" a tree called by us "the Wish Tree", the development of this activity was discussed in a previous post. It was followed by another tree that we called "Tree of Good Knowledge", where we hung little boards around its trunk with quotations, aphorisms and thoughts of Silo and other people who contributed their wisdom. Unlike the previous tree, which only lasted a few days, this has already been adapting to the landscape of the neighborhood for a month and a half. Soon we will go on growing our particular forest with other trees, such as "the Cultures Tree", "the Dialogue tree" and so on.
Another activity has been a series of ads that did not seek, nor asked for, nor rented, nor bought or sold anything, like it is expected. In our case we only offered us: "I shake hands", "I bring another point of view", "I'm all ears (I offer to listen to you)", “I share smiles", "I cook hopes" ... all with a disinterested giving background. There is no way to measure how this activity has been welcomed by people, but those who read the ads while we stuck them looked at us with a conspiratorial smile, and even a daring neighbor wrote to us: "It is encouraging, and more in times like these, knowing that there are people who care about positive changing the coexistence in the neighborhood and, if it is in a disinterested way, it is worthy of congratulations, so I have to join those who have thought as I did with regard to your work."
On the other hand, an online magazine has been launched to inform about our activities, ideas and doctrine. This magazine also allows us to get in touch with people and neighborhood groups that excel at some activity, through interviews, articles, videos, etc. We can also reach any neighbor through surveys, opinions or specific actions. Trying to find for this magazine, rather than an intellectual tone, a moving tone, almost poetic, with little text and lots of visual impact, hoping that it can be noticed by other less common senses. The first number can be seen at www.carabancheles.com.
The seminars in Toledo Park with other teams from Madrid, the creation of an Inspiration Workshop where these kind of activities can be generated, the trend towards keeping the premises open for the neighborhood all week long, the weekly meetings of Convergence Cultures, the direct contact with the neighbors ... are items that are helping to create dynamism to that idea that we talked about at the beginning. All this has been accompanied by media elements such as posters announcing the magazine, brochure with the activities scheduled for the month, information notice board on the door of the premises, etc.
When Carabanchel team stated its intentions for this year last December, we said:
"We are located in a neighborhood of the future, where people know each other and know us; greet each other and greet us, are interested in our activities and participate in them, make the spreading easier and recommend us to their close friends. And that is because we are not strange or unknown yet, but because we are a reference of a very dynamic, diverse, supportive, creative ... alive neighborhood. "
Well, there we go. |
