Forum of the Convergence of Cultures

1
Istambul – December 2010
As a continuation of the activities of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence, we feel the necessity of continuing to give signals of our proposals in order to surpass suffering in the planet and take advantage of all the work that has been done until now.
Through our experience in the World March and the contacts that were made with distinct cultures, we see a good opportunity to make a forum of convergence of cultures in Istanbul, taking advantage of various factors:
  1. Continental crossroads and cultural areas (Europe, Asia – Specifically the Middle East)
  2. Cultural European Capital in 2010, through this context the municipality of Istanbul offered to help this project.
  3. Contacts with social, cultural, political and religious movements, such as personalities, artists, and intellectuals of the zone.
  4. To incorporate cities and countries where until now, we have not had permanent presence and base teams could develop.

As a form of participation in the teams of The Convergence of Cultures, we propose the connection through video conferencing so that when we have the Forum in Istanbul, there can be participation in other places and to promote the active participation without having to physically go there.

This Forum can be a good example of how to work in the future, connecting more points each time and organizing the Convergence of Cultures in a polycentric way throughout the whole world.

"Finally without conflict" the Anthem of the CC

1
In 2008, some musicians who collaborated with us where proposed to hand in a theme for the World March for Peace and Nonviolence, that recently started to emerge. The approach was to bring together the essence of the Convergence of Cultures with the project we were driving. From out this propose two beautiful songs were created, Daniel Cano’s “Finally without conflict” and Niño Stanton’s “World March for Peace and Non Violence”, and a touching symphony, Victor Alonso’s “5 Symphonic Poems for the Peace and the Non Violence, opened in November 22nd 2009 in the City Conservatory. All of them had the feeling to capture and achieve to transmit the message.

When we planned to make a spot to spread information about the March, to be celebrated in November 21st 2009 in Las Palmas, we thought that nobody could do it better than the artists and their music that had accompanied us all the way. Even though both songs where lovely, “Finally without conflict” was chosen because it was written in Spanish and could function better with everyone’s voice. Our function was to create the atmosphere and put in touch those who didn’t know each other. All the rest was done by them. The first boost was done by Daniel Cano (he worked for hours to adapt the theme), Fermín Romero and Vidini Melini. Later, the efforts of Alejandro Campos from Niño Stanton, Randi and Noray of Naimed, the Achankara friends and Luis Melini were added. Said Muti, Cristina Maez, Carolina Marrero and Cristo Cardona, who did the video with few resources and a lot of patience where included in the project. Ginés Cedrés (singer of Los Coquillos and Salvapantallas) was proposed by email to participate and he accepted. The result was a video that moves, because the best of them all was done and together they knew how to transmit the spirit lived at the moment, not only in Las Palmas but also in many other parts of the world; where in spite of difficulties there was bet for “Yes we can”. The anthem is the hope that lives in our hearts, which goes beyond time and what has been listened in many places and by many people. The Convergence of Cultures Anthem fills with pride to all of us, emotions because it helps to remember the best of what we have done, but among all it wakes up in all what we can still contribute.
